blind landscape: propoganda

These images are constructs, created from images taken in North Korea and the DMZ in April 06.

The original images are manipulated to reorder what is actually there. They are a reworking of images taken during a brief action/ performance called Blind . The original action was during a visit to Mount Geumgan in North Korea as part of the 11th Nine Dragon Heads Environment Art Symposium. The images develop and extend the intention of the original performance; which was a direct reaction to being unable to document anything except the official reality. Meanwhile many things seen contradict what may be portrayed.

However even under these highly restricted conditions something of the real situation is visible if you look carefully. I have used doubling and reversals to make it harder to discern the truth of the situation, while leaving it fully visible. In keeping with the disorienting sensation that a visitor to the hermit state may feel. A disjunction, a landscape both seen and not seen. Blind Landscape: propoganda

The set of four images were printed and exhibited in Sweden at Artmeeting 04/06.

the original unaltered images from the journey, as well as some notes about the experience in general are here in the documentation of the work Blind, and also here in the documentation of a work called Kiss propoganda
