| This is a view of No-return Bridge, so called because it is where prisoners of war from both sides were exchanged. The men were given an inflexible choice, once they crossed over the bridge they would not be allowed to return. You can see the guard posts at either side, one from each army.
Interestingly some men elected to remain in the North, at the time it was the more prosperous region. Hardship and hunger was experienced by those on the South in the years immediately after the war.
